For over 25 years
Alternative Directions, Inc. (ADI) has been serving people in prison
and individuals returning home after incarceration.
What would
you do if you were leaving prison with only $50 in your pocket, no
housing, no job, no transportation, multiple health problems, and no
one to turn to for help?
This is the overwhelming reality faced by
thousands of men and women released from prison each year in
Maryland.
Alternative
Directions’ programs for women and men leaving prison have been
highly successful in breaking the cycle of recidivism characteristic
of individuals who have a history of substance abuse and
incarceration. Inside the prisons, ADI helps incarcerated
individuals resolve pro se civil legal problems, and provides vital
information about services available to them and their families
after they are released. These activities include programs such as
housing assistance, job placements, and substance abuse programs.
